Life-area timing - marriage, career, children, property, foreign, education

Last updated View as Markdown Agent setup

Six life areas and one call for all of them. Each answers “when”: it cuts a span of up to 20 years into windows wherever a Vimshottari period or the sign of Jupiter or Saturn changes, scores every window against the houses and karakas of the area, and returns the rules that fired so your app can show why.

Every rule carries a basis: classical when a named text states it (BPHS, Phaladeepika), modern when it is a 20th-century convention or a widely taught rule for which no verse was found (the double transit, Rahu as karaka of the foreign, Jupiter as karaka of the husband), kp for Krishnamurti Paddhati. The points are this API’s own and are returned with every response; they rank windows, the rules are the evidence.

Birth data as for every chart (date, time, latitude, longitude, timezoneOffset or timezone; ayanamsaId, Lahiri by default). The houses come from the sidereal Lagna, so the time and the place are required.

houses and karakas list what the area reads in this chart, with the sign and lord of each house. windows are in date order; each has start, end (UTC dates; startJd and endJd exact), dasha (the maha, antar and pratyantar lords), transitAtStart, score, components (dasha, transit, kp), convergence and rules. A rule is { id, level, planet, house, points, basis, source, rule }, where source is a key into the area’s sources and rule states the fact that fired, for example “Antardasha lord Jupiter rules the 7th house (Pisces).” summary gives the number of windows, how many converge, the top score and the five best windows. rulesBasis.scoring returns the points below.

Neighbouring windows with the same lords and the same rules are merged, so a sign change of Jupiter that alters nothing does not split a window.

Dasha points are multiplied by the level weight: maha 1, antar 1, pratyantar 0.5. Houses are whole signs from the sidereal Lagna; transits are by sidereal sign. convergence is true when a maha or antar rule touches a primary house or a karaka and a double transit fires in the same window: K.N. Rao’s “the dasha promises, the transit times”.

BPHS chapter numbers follow the Santhanam translation and are given to the chapter, not the verse. BPHS also names Mercury and Jupiter as karakas of the 10th; they are left out of career because Jupiter is karaka of five houses and would fire in every area.

Kyiv, 15 May 1990, 15:30 (UTC+3). Virgo Lagna, so the 7th is Pisces and its lord is Jupiter, which sits in Gemini. The marriage window from 17 February 2029 runs Jupiter maha, Jupiter antar, Ketu pratyantar, with Jupiter in Libra and Saturn in Aries:

  • maha Jupiter rules the 7th: 3, and is a karaka (modern): 1
  • antar Jupiter, the same: 3 + 1
  • pratyantar Ketu occupies Cancer, the 11th (supporting): 1 x 0.5
  • Jupiter in Libra aspects its 9th, Gemini; Saturn in Aries aspects its 3rd, Gemini: both reach the 7th lord, double-transit-lord 3

Score 11.5 (dasha 8.5, transit 3), convergence true. The test suite pins this window rule by rule.

No other API publishes the rules behind its timing windows, so there is no number to compare with. The rules are pinned by hand-worked cases in the test suite, and the dasha periods come from the same tree as the Vimshottari endpoints: the antardashas of the mahadasha running at birth count from its notional start, as the texts do.
